CALL 14-2024-1 RESEARCH ENGINEER FOR A CLOUD 5G/6G LAB

Who are we looking for ?
CTTC is searching for two interested candidates to work as research engineers for a cloud 5G/6G lab of the SaS research unit: https://www.cttc.cat/services-as-networks-sas/.
The two successful candidates will be an integral part of the SaS research unit, primarily operating within our state-of-the-art laboratory. The candidates will actively engage in cutting-edge research and collaborate on projects related to 6G mobile networks.

What do we offer? :
• We offer an indefinite contract of scientific technical activities until the end of the UNICO program or other programmes in which CTTC is participating. Once this project will finish, you will join other projects in the same research line, subject to budget availability.
• Annual gross salary according to the profile of the candidate
• Full-time contract: 7,5 h/day. Flexibility
• Expected professional category: R1/R2.
Exceptional candidates may be considered even if they do not meet all the requirements. In this case the professional category will be based on the qualifications and experience of the applicant according with CTTC professional categories procedure (https://www.cttc.cat/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/Update-professional-categories.pdf).
• Tenure track: Career progression with possibility of stabilization trough a permanent structural contract

Qualifications and Experience
We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, energetic person, aiming at significantly improving his or her career perspectives in both public and private sectors.
• Required qualification/skills/experience:
 Proficiency in Linux system administration (40 points)
 Experience in managing virtual machines (20 points)
 Strong networking knowledge, including VPN management (20 points)
 (for R2 only) BSc degree in Telecommunications, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related field (10 points)
• Other skills that are valuable, but not mandatory are:
• (for R1 only) BSc degree (or equivalent number of years of expertise) in Telecommunications, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related field (10 points)
• MSc/PhD in Telecommunications, Electronic Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related field (or equivalent number of years of expertise) (5 points)
• Familiarity with containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes (10 points)
• Experience from participating in national and/or international research projects with partners from academia and industry, e.g., EC H2020 (5 points)
• Strong oral and written English communication skills (5 points)
• Hands-on experience in topics like (15 points):
 Configuring and managing web servers like Apache and Nginx
 Understanding of CI/CD principles and practices
 5G and Wi-Fi experimentation
 5G Core technologies like Open Air Interface or Open5GS
 NVIDIA GPUs and their utilization for research purposes
 Android development skills for deploying mobile applications
 Headsets, particularly in the context of VR/AR research
