CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Job Title: Chief Financial Officer, a leading biofuels company (the COMPANY)Position Type: Full Time – PermanentLocation: Madrid, with frequent travels to the plant site in southern Spain requiredPosition SummaryReporting directly to the COMPANY’s Board of Directors, the CFO will play a key role in driving profitability, ensuring financial compliance, and supporting sustainable growth by providing strategic financial leadership and insights. The incumbent is expected to provide overall financial leadership and guidance for the COMPANY, and ensures that all financial commitments are achieved. This includes developing financial strategy, including risk minimization plans and opportunity forecasting. The role also provides high-level financial reporting and analysis and regular budget consolidation.Essential Duties and Responsibilities1. Financial Strategy & LeadershipDevelop and implement the financial strategy aligned with the COMPANY’s vision and goals.Provide leadership on financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting to ensure efficient allocation of resources. Drive financial performance through analysis, reporting, and strategic planning.Ensure the integrity of the COMPANY’s accounting records and financial systems2. Financial Operations ManagementOversee accounting, tax, treasury, and financial reporting functions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.Ensure compliance with Spanish and EU financial regulations and industry-specific requirements.Manage cash flow, working capital, currency hedging and funding strategies to support operations and investments.Actively involved and providing relevant and timely financial information to enable a balanced and objective assessment of the COMPANY’s strategy and objectives.Preparation of budgets, forecasts and business plans and continued monitoring and review of performance against them to enable robust reporting of variances to the Board and stakeholders.3. Business PartneringCollaborate with the CEO and Executive Team to guide decision-making with financial insights.Support Operations and Commercial teams in evaluating new projects, contracts, and business opportunities.Lead financial risk management, including market, credit, and operational risks.4. Stakeholder ManagementServe as the key point of contact for investors, financial institutions, auditors, and regulators.Prepare and present financial reports to the Board, investors, and key stakeholders.Manage relationships with banks and financial institutions for optimal financing structures.Manage relationships with auditors, tax advisers, brokers, bankers and other parties.Keep key stakeholders up to date on progress against key milestones.5. Mergers, Acquisitions, and Capital InvestmentsEvaluate and execute M&A opportunities, partnerships, and strategic investments.Conduct due diligence and financial modelling for new ventures and acquisitions.Optimize capital investment strategies to maximize returns.6. Sustainability & InnovationSupport initiatives to enhance sustainability in line with industry and regulatory expectations.Leverage technology and digital tools to improve financial processes and reporting.Ensure the CEO of the COMPANY is kept informed of Industry developments which are relevant to the operation of an efficient finance function.7. Team leadershipIdentify, attract, and retain top finance talent, fostering a culture of collaboration, trust, and continuous improvement to achieve both individual and team excellence.Provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and professional development opportunities, empowering team members to enhance their skills, grow within the organization, and take ownership of their roles.Clearly communicate the strategic goals of the COMPANY, ensuring the team understands their role in achieving financial and business objectives while maintaining focus, motivation, and accountability.Carry out any further tasks for which the candidate’s qualifications & experience are suited as directed by the COMPANYJob RequirementsBachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. MBA, CFA, or CPA preferred.Minimum 10 - 15 years’ related experience in financial leadership roles, ideally in renewable energy, biofuels, Oil & Gas, Chemical, or manufacturing industry.Proven track record in financial strategy, risk management, and operational excellence, ideally in a joint-venture environment with exposure to Asian operation and culture.Experience working in the Spanish market with a strong understanding of local regulations and business practices.Possess good business & financial acumen with leadership & communication skills.Possess strong strategic abilities and a wide network of contacts.Resilient, result and performance driven, willing and able to be hands-on with can-do attitude.Fluent in Spanish (a must-have) and English.
