We work with prominent FTSE 100 clients offering comprehensive climate risk projections that inform their short, medium, and long-term adaptation plans.We are at the forefront of climate adaptation, leveraging advanced climate science and physical risk modelling to help clients navigate the physical risks associated with climate change.Position OverviewWe are looking for a Mid-Level Backend Developer with a strong focus on Python, AWS, microservices, and ideally, experience working within React-based environments. This role will be instrumental in building and maintaining the backend services that power our climate risk models and resilience solutions. You will work closely with the frontend team and data scientists to create scalable, reliable, and high-performance systems that deliver seamless client experiences.The candidate should ideally be based in the area between Cadiz and Malaga (Spain) or be willing to relocate to this area asap. The role is fully remote but it's important to note that there will be in-person team gatherings once a week or once every 2 weeks.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign, build, and maintain scalable backend services using Python and AWS to support our climate risk platforms.Develop microservices architectures and ensure seamless integration with frontend systems built in React.Work with data scientists to implement efficient data pipelines and APIs that handle large-scale climate datasets.Collaborate closely with frontend engineers and ensure smooth end-to-end functionality between backend and user-facing features.Implement and maintain robust testing frameworks to ensure backend system reliability and performance.Contribute to architectural decisions, helping shape the future of our technology stack and infrastructure.Optimize system performance and troubleshoot issues as they arise in production environments.Maintain high coding standards with clean, modular, and well-documented code.Qualifications & ExperienceGood working level of English is essential (all team communication and any stakeholder engagement required will be conducted in English) Proven experience (3-5 years) as a backend developer with proficiency in Python, AWS services (Lambda, S3, RDS, etc.), and microservices architectures.Familiarity with frontend frameworks, especially React, and how they integrate with backend services.Strong understanding of RESTful APIs and data management using SQL/NoSQL databases.Experience in deploying and managing cloud-based applications, including working with CI/CD pipelines.Knowledge of containerisation tools such as Docker and orchestration systems like Kubernetes.Familiarity with serverless architectures and designing highly scalable backend solutions.Ability to write well-tested, clean, and efficient code, and experience working in an Agile development environment.Key Competencies Problem-solving mindset with an ability to work independently or collaboratively.Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining technical concepts to non-technical team members.Attention to detail with a focus on delivering reliable and scalable solutions.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.Interest in or passion for climate resilience and sustainable development is a plus.Why Join Us?At SmartResilience, we pride ourselves on our inclusive, collaborative, and mission-driven culture.
