Context And Mission The Life Sciences Department at the BSC integrates the independent research of senior scientists that work on various aspects of computational biology, ranging from bioinformatics for genomics to computational biochemistry and text mining.
Within the Department, the NLP for Biomedical Information Analysis unit is aims to promote the development of natural language processing and machine translation resources for Spanish and other co-official languages in biomedicine.
The increasing demand for pediatric urgent care has led to overcrowding in emergency departments and inefficient use of healthcare resources.
There is a critical need to develop an AI-driven natural language processing (NLP) model to optimize patient triage and resource allocation in pediatric urgent care settings.
In the framework of a new collaborative project with a local hospital, the unit is seeking a candidate to contribute to enhancing patient experience, reducing emergency department overcrowding, and ensuring appropriate utilization of healthcare resources across primary care and hospital settings.
As a Pediatric Urgent Care Physician, the candidate will play a crucial role in developing and refining an NLP model to improve the efficiency and accuracy of patient prioritisation in urgent care.
His/her clinical expertise will be instrumental in creating a system that can automatically classify patients based on clinical assessment.
Key Duties Provide clinical expertise to guide the development of the NLP model for pediatric urgent care triage Review and define common symptoms, signs, and consultation reasons in pediatric urgent care Establish priority criteria associated with consultation reasons and patient characteristics Validate and refine the database of symptoms, signs, and associated questions Define action criteria based on priority and appropriate healthcare setting Establish coordination levels between hospital and primary care services Assess the reliability and accuracy of the model's prioritisation and care setting recommendations Review and update clinical content as needed to ensure model accuracy and relevance Collaborate with the technical team to integrate clinical knowledge into the NLP model Participate in testing and validation of the model's performance Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines Adapt to new functions that may arise due to technical, legal, or organisational changes in the project Requirements Education Medical degree (MS or equivalent) Specialization in Pediatrics (completed residency programme) Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience Extensive experience in pediatric urgent care In-depth knowledge of pediatric triage systems, particularly the Model Andorrà de Triatge (MAT) Familiarity with common pediatric urgent care conditions and their management Understanding of healthcare resource allocation and patient flow in urgent care settings Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience Experience in clinical research or quality improvement projects Familiarity with AI and NLP concepts in healthcare applications Familiarity with SNOMED CT codes Knowledge of Catalan both spoken and written Knowledge of English both spoken and written Competences Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent communication and teamwork abilities Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies Ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment Commitment to patient-centered care and quality improvement Alignment with institutional values and ethical standards Conditions The position will be located at BSC within the Life Sciences Department We offer a full-time contract (37.
