You will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of Travelport’s next generation of travel agencies tools.You will be responsible for developing and maintaining Java based microservices as well as our SQL database, overseeing junior developers on projects, and supporting various development duties. The responsibilities of senior engineers include writing code, analyzing data, and contributing to the design and implementation of software.You will be joining a team who are pivotal in building API’s for Travelport Products and enabling our customers’ onboarding and configuration. Your work will directly impact Travelport customers making their interactions with Travelport seamless and efficient.You will be passionate about seeing changes come to life. Naturally curious and immersed in the work – constantly reading, innovating, researching, exploring the latest trends and trying out new technologies and approaches.Responsibilities:Work within an agile scrum team to continually improve and build a high performing team.Contribute to the design, development and maintenance work delivering Java based APIs and microservices used by Travelport Products.Configure and maintain SQL databases and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.Design, implement, and continuously expand data pipelines by performing extraction, transformation, and loading activities.Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.Assist developers with complex queries and schema refinement, share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.Ensure that the data architecture is scalable and maintainable.Proactively work with the team to improve the CI/CD and automation capabilities.Support and guide requirements/design activities for features in Travelport ProductsParticipate in feature and story refinement and research and analyze impact for new capabilities.Contributes to establishment and enforcement of standards and best practices. Focused on efficient, high performance, high reliability/stability experience and architectural alignment of solution.Demonstrates ability to keep things simple and apply lean product development principles.Takes the initiative – doesn't wait to be told what to do. Constantly coming up with small improvements or big new ideas, bringing the best solutions to life.Embrace a culture of high quality, continuous delivery.Mentoring junior members of your team via code reviews, peer programming and other regular feedback.Quality is important to us; you will be writing & running tests against the code you introduce.We regularly carry out demo sessions for knowledge transfer and to gather feedback, you would participate in these sessions, presenting your work and giving feedback.Participate in supporting the availability and stability of applications in production.What we look for/who would prosper in this role?5+ year’s experience in writing and deploying scalable and robust code.Individuals with excellent, proven ability in server-side development using Java and Spring Boot.Experience in the development of scalable enterprise applications and REST microservices on private and public Cloud providers, using microservice architecture principles (12 factor etc.)SQL Competence – Fair knowledge ofo SQL databaseso Stored Procedures and Functionso Querying, Normalization, Performance Tuning, Indexing, etc.o Data Integrityo Data analysis and explorationExperience writing effective Unit & Integration Tests.Quality & high standards really matter to us - you will focus on continually applying high coding standards, excellent attention to detail and a methodological work processConfident working with source control tools and branching strategiesPrevious experience in an Agile (Scrum) environment working with cross-functional development teams.Strong verbal and written communication skills in EnglishIt would be advantageous if you have some experience with:Understanding of Git (e.g. Github), managing branches, pull requests and common workflows.Understanding of Microsoft MS SQL which is our current database system.Familiarity with standard CI / CD strategies & technologies (e.g. GitHub Actions, Sonarqube).Experience working with containers (docker and Kubernetes deployments)Good Knowledge in OpenShift, Docker, and Cloud Platforms.
