SENIOR SCIENTIST, TRANSLATIONAL BIOINFORMATICS

This team of experts from various disciplines, including Data Science, Real World Evidence and Bioinformatics, is dedicated to transforming the drug discovery process at AstraZeneca.
This role will focus on enhancing our understanding of disease and drug targets by exploring innovative ways to analyse multi-modal biomarker signatures.

As a Bioinformatics Scientist, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of innovative data analysis capabilities as part of a cross-functional team.
You will build signature ingestion and analysis pipelines for applications such as predicting drug failure due to toxicity or predicting patient outcomes in clinical studies.
You will work collaboratively with data and drug discovery scientists to analysis and interpret the data to deliver insights that will directly impact the drug discovery and development pipeline.
You will also implement testing and verification of FAIR data management systems in collaboration with AZ stakeholders.
Your effective communication skills will be crucial in translating complex concepts to non-experts in internal and external scientific meetings.

PhD in bioinformatics or related field.
First-hand experience in the analysis and interpretation of large, complex datasets.
Expertise in transcriptomics and/or proteomic analysis.
Experience with analysis of gene networks.
Experience with R and/or Python.
Ability to explore novel bioinformatic approaches to improve sensitivity and specificity of existing software solutions.
Strong, professional communication skills and excellent attention to detail, capable of developing good working relationships with diverse individuals.
Experience working within a team environment.
Takes ownership of tasks and has a can do attitude.

Hands-on experience with the methods and pipelines for the analysis and interpretation of large, complex datasets in clouds or HPC environments.
Expertise in R and Python with best practice for scalable performant data pipelines.
Ability to explore novel bioinformatic approaches to improve sensitivity and specificity of existing software solutions.
Experience in transcriptomics and/or proteomic analysis, including gene network analysis.
Strong, professional communication skills and excellent attention to detail, capable of developing good working relationships with diverse individuals.
Experience working within a team environment.
Takes ownership of tasks and has a can-do attitude.
