Descripción The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education.
ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level.
Research is organized in five programs.
Climate, Air Pollution, Nature and Urban Health; Environment and Health over the Lifecourse; Global Viral and Bacterial Infections; Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases and Maternal Child and Reproductive Health.
ISGlobal is accredited with the Severo Ochoa distinction, a seal of excellence of the Spanish Science Ministry.
Lugar Mozambique ABOUT THE POSITION The Manhiça Foundation was created in by the governments of Mozambique and Spain, the National Institute of Health of Mozambique (INS) and The Clinical Foundation for Biomedical Research (Hospital Clínic - University of Barcelona), currently The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal).
The Foundation manages the Manhiça Health Research Centre (CISM), a biomedical research centre in Mozambique with a particular focus on the main causes of morbidity and mortality in the country.
Established in , CISM fosters and conducts biomedical research in priority health areas, focussing on diseases that cause most deaths in the world, especially in developing countries.
It generates scientific evidence to influence creating and updating health policy in Mozambique and the world, and creates scientific leaders not only to sustain the Centre and to develop research capacity in Mozambique but also to drive development in the country’s health sector.
The Foundation is hiring a Chief Operating Officer.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced manager to join the Foundation, at an exciting time in its history, playing an instrumental role in the development and delivery of its mission and objectives.
The post holder will support the Director General in the leadership and management of the Foundation, ensuring efficient and effective use of its resources.
Responsible for the strategic financial planning and oversight of the overall budgetary resources, the post holder will ensure compliance with policies and regulations, manage budgets, and help to develop and maintain a collaborative, cooperative culture between research groups, cross-Unit, research functions and administrative and operational activities.

EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS The post holder should have experience in auditing and operations management and be able to evidence strategic alignment and optimal service delivery and organisation.
The post holder will be a strong financial and operational leader and will need to show an understanding of the particular challenges of research within a Sub-Saharan African setting.
Direct reports and teams will look for inspirational leadership and a capacity for building and training high performing teams, so candidates should evidence staff development, creativity and autonomy.
