CLIMATE FINANCE AND ACCREDITATION SPECIALIST

Humana People to People is a network of 29 NGOs working for the sustainable development of vulnerable communities across Africa, Latin American and Asia. The European hub - hosted within Humana Spain - represents and supports the work of national member organizations in Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and Asia. Member organizations currently run over 400 projects globally with own funds as well as with funding from national, bilateral and multilateral partners.Over the past 5 to 10 years, Humana member organizations have started including climate change adaptation projects into their portfolios, and have started to engage with some of the major international climate donors including the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Adaptation Fund (AF), and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).The Humana People to People European Partnership Department is looking for a Climate Finance and Accreditation Specialist to be part of its multicultural team.The Climate Finance and Accreditation Specialist will be responsible for leading and managing the accreditation process(es) for accessing international climate finance mechanisms. The specialist will ensure that Humna meets all necessary fiduciary, environmental, and social standards required by these mechanisms and will work closely with Humana staff, teams, and member organizations.The ultimate goal of this position is to contribute to mobilizing resources to support Humana’s mission, and ultimately make significant advancements in locally-led adaptation (LLA) and community-based adaptation (CBA) initiatives in Humana’s member countries.Key Responsibilities:Accreditation Process Management:Lead and coordinate the accreditation process for Humana’s member organization(s) to international climate finance mechanisms.Coordinate with Humana’s Accreditation Team, ensuring effective coordination among different departments.Develop and implement a detailed accreditation workplan, roadmap and timeline.Perform policy assessments and compliance checks to ensure that HPP member organizations are aligned with the regulatory requirements of climate finance bodies, including fiduciary, environmental, and social standards.Address policy gaps identified, including the development of an Environmental and Social Management System, and the development/update of Humana’s Climate Action Strategy and other relevant policies to meet accreditation standards.Prepare and submit all required accreditation documents, ensuring accuracy and completeness.Develop and maintain comprehensive records of the accreditation process, including all correspondence, submissions, and approvals.Monitor and report on the progress of accreditation processes, identifying and addressing any challenges that arise.Facilitate internal reviews and audits to ensure readiness for accreditation.Stakeholder Engagement and Representation:Act as liaison between Humana and climate finance bodies, ensuring effective communication and relationship management.Represent Humana in meetings with climate finance officials, partners, and other stakeholders to advocate for Humana’s accreditation and project approval.Engage with national and regional entities in member countries to promote Humana’s accreditation efforts and facilitate partnerships.Engage with other international NGOs and other bodies to share best practices and learnings in the accreditation process.Advocate for Direct Access principles, LLA and CBA principles in all stakeholder engagements.Support the Development of Internal Processes and Capacities:Provide technical support and capacity building to Humana teams on the requirements and processes for access to climate finance.Develop and implement internal processes, templates, and ways of working to streamline the accreditation process across Humana member organizations.Develop capacity-building plans and materials tailored to the specific needs of Humana teams.As applicable, conduct workshops, training sessions, and webinars to enhance the understanding of climate finance processes among Humana staff and teams.Create standardized templates for documentation and reporting to ensure consistency and compliance with accreditation requirements.You should apply if: (if you do not meet these requirements, please refrain from applying). You have a positive and enthusiastic attitude towards holistic community development, bottom-up and locally-led approaches, and to Humana’s philosophy and work.You are motivated and eager to contribute to the long-term efforts and hard work that is required to support vulnerable populations in their efforts to adapt to the impacts of climate change.You enjoy working independently, as well as being part of a team, and in dynamic and multicultural organizations and environments.You enjoy learning new things, and are quick in picking up new knowledge and skills within a variety of topics and skills related to the position advertised.You are available and willing to travel regularly in relation to the accreditation process.General Requirements Education/Knowledge: University degree – or similar by experience – in Environmental Sciences, Development Studies, Economics, Law, or a related field.;Demonstrated knowledge of accreditation processes and requirements;Demonstrated knowledge of international climate finance institutions, international relations, and development cooperation.Demonstrated strong understanding of environmental and social standards, fiduciary standards, and legal standards required by international development and climate finance donors.Work experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in engagement with international development or international climate finance institutions;Demonstrated work experience directly or indirectly related to climate finance institutions such as GCF, GEF and AF.Demonstrated work experience in engaging with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, international organizations, and civil society;Demonstrated work experience in the project management cycle, including project development, project management, development of budgets, M&E, and reports;Work experience directly related to accreditation processes towards GCF or AF will be considered a plus;Work experience in policy development and institutional assessments will be considered a plus;Work experience in developing countries, especially in Africa, will be considered as a plus.Languages, skills, and competencies: Minimum C2 level English required.
