Resume The Package Development Engineer provides technical expertise in the areas of design, development, testing and production scale-up of new packaging components and systems.
They work with guidance of Senior/Staff Packaging Development leadership.
Major Duties & Responsibilities Develops packaging for medical devices.
Enhances and validates package components and packaging processes.
Develops package testing plans and interprets results as required for various projects.
Coordinates and performs all activities associates with manufacturing and testing.
Provides troubleshooting in the resolution of packaging related issues in manufacturing and the field.
Participates in process improvement, quality improvement, cost improvement, change control or task teams.
Participates and advises in decisions involving equipment, package design, cost saving and source reduction.
Researches and catalogues packaging methods and techniques and recommends adaptations to meet variations.
Builds technical competencies in packaging materials and processes used in all manufacturing processes.
Participates and provides technical expertise for risk assessment and compliance assurance programs.
Assures accurate and true records are reflected in the PLM systems.
Assures delivery of robust, cost effective, fully compliant packaging solutions that meet current and evolving customer's needs.
Knows and follows all laws and policies that apply to one's job, and maintains the highest levels of professionalism, ethics and compliance at all times.

Extended duties are assigned depending on the packaging business area the employee is supporting.
Packaging leader for assigned NPI and LCM projects with moderate supervision.
Develops and participates in voice of customer workshops.
Develops innovative packaging solutions for medical device products.
Supports harmonization and/or standardization projects.
Develops, tracks and maintains project plans and budgets for projects.
Designs packaging for medical device products.
Determines, coordinates, and executes physical testing to ensure product and packager integrity for manufacturing through end users.
Creates package distribution and shelf-life testing plans, interprets results as required for various projects and communicates those to appropriate groups.
Reviews and updates technical reports, procedures, policies and other sources of information to ensure that validations and procedures are consistent with current industry, regulatory requirements and current technology.
Drives test method validation to assure a successful and on-time implementation of the equipment in our test laboratory Interprets all test method validation results and creates related documentation.
Advises in decisions involving test equipment & methods, packaging design, cost saving and sourcing.
Provides subject matter expertise in the areas of validation activities, risk reduction, risk assessments, and audits.
Responsible for initial patent review of designs.
Leads frontend Package Development projects, creates innovative designs & concepts.
Translates design concepts into working blueprints, product models, concept layouts, assembly drawings and prints using a CAD software including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (tolerance stack up).
Applies statistical methods and process/design excellence tools.
Performs design/process failure mode effects and analysis.
Responsible to incorporate manufacturability into the product designs.
Supports risk mitigation methodology to drive process stability and capability.
Develops fixtures and tool design and can express and implement ideas with tool designers.
Qualifications 2 – 4 years related experience.
Experience in packaging, medical device or other regulated industry preferred.
Knowledge of packaging material characteristics and validation practices is required Knowledge of ISO, ISO, ISTA and ASTM is preferred Experience in plastic component design, development and qualification Previous Experience in the areas of Design for Manufacturing or Assembly Statistical Analysis knowledge preferred (Six Sigma) Knowledge of CAD software (Creo, Solid Works, NX or similar) is required Knowledge of process DOE’s, GR&R, IQ/OQ/PQ, Fishbone, etc.
