POSTDOC IN GENOMICS OF NEURODEGENERATION

About the Company - ACE Alzheimer Center is a non-profit organization located in Barcelona, Spain. ACE was registered and declared a welfare institution by the Government of Catalonia in 1995. ACE has developed an integrated care model that includes diagnosis, therapy, follow-up care, day-care and a day hospital in the context of an active clinical and scientific research program. The main objective of the genomic research group (https://www.fundacioace.com/en/genomic-research.html) is to understand the causes of Alzheimer's disease and other dementias by integrating genetic, transcriptomic and proteomic data. The gene bank of ACE is considered one of the largest in the world in the field of dementia, with more than 20,000 samples stored. Thanks to the existence of this collection, we have participated in the discovery of 40 genetic risk factors linked to Alzheimer's. However, these findings are still insufficient to establish the exact mechanism by which this disease is generated and our projects keep growing.About the RoleResponsibilitiesThe candidate will be responsible for processing, analyzing and interpreting genomic data and to write the resulting manuscripts within the context of its own project, but as well as in collaboration with other members of the team or in the framework of extramural collaborations.The successful candidate will contribute to the supervision of junior members of the team and to participate in the scientific discussion of related projects.The successful candidate will also participate in meetings within the group and with other institutions and investigators and will assist in the transfer/sharing of data with collaborators.QualificationsPhD in Translational Medicine, Biology, Biomedicine or related discipline.Masters in Bioinformatics, Genetics, Neuroscience or related training.Advanced knowledge in the Unix-based operating system is required.Experience with basic system administration is preferred.Advanced skills in R software and statistics is required - capacity to manage and integrate complex data using adequate packages.Previous research expertise in processing and analyzing genomic (array, WES, WGS) is required.Demonstrated knowledge of tools employed for the analyses of such data is required; preferably in the area of human genetics.High level of enthusiasm and motivation; passion for research!Experience in designing and writing high-quality scientific papers and delivering results at international conferences.Required SkillsExperience working with containers in HPC (e.g. LSF/SLURM/EC2) and cloud environments (e.g. AWS/EC2/Batch).Experience in Python programming.Experience handling hundred/thousands of samples at once from different batches and how to deal with potential derived artifacts is valued.Experience with gene expression/RNASeq data will be highly valued.Capacity to filter, integrate and analyze large and complex datasets of genomic, transcriptomic and clinical data and to interpret integrated results.Experience in grant writing.Interpersonal and communication skills and basic command of Spanish language.Fluency in English as part of a team with multiple international collaborators.Excellent communication skills, as part of the team composed of professionals working in different locations.Strong capacity to work both independently and as part of a team: problem solution, learning capacity.Demonstrated track record of achievement (papers, abstracts, communications).ConditionsDuration: one year, renewable upon performanceStarting date: December 2024 -January 2025Contract: full time with flexible working hours and the possibility of remote work up to 1 day per weekIf you are interested apply and send us your motivation letter to rrhh@fundacioace.org, we are eager to hear from you!
