POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER ON BIODIVERSITY FOREST MANAGEMENT AND CARBON BALANCE ASSESSMENT IN EUROPEAN INFORMA PROJECT (REF. )

CREAF is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to work in the INFORMA project (Science-based INtegrated FORest Mitigation mAnagement made operational for Europe, EU Grant Agreement.
), financed by European Commission.
CREAF is seeking for a researcher with experience in forest carbon balance, forest ecosystems services’ provision, and forest ecophysiological processes assessment.
They will work together an international team of researchers by supporting the CREAF research team’s advances by analyzing the impacts of forest management on carbon balances and its potential enhancement of carbon sink capacities.
Also, they will evaluate the observed tradeoffs and synergies regarding several forest ecosystem services (FES) provision among different management alternatives, and gather robust evidences to inform the EU commission about the spatial pattern of such tradeoffs and synergies.
By following a systematic review approach, the researcher will screen the most recent literature comparing forest C sink capacity of pairs of Managed VS Unmanaged forests.
The ultimate goal is the systematization of the information in a database gathering the information regarding C stocks differences in Managed VS Unmanaged stands across Europe, and to redact a high-impact publication.
This work will directly support EU climate and forest management policies by providing evidence-based insights.
A full-time contract (37,5 hours/week) is offered with planned incorporation in January , with a duration of 12 months that could be extended up to the end of the INFORMA Project, planned at the end of June if budget allows.
The annual gross salary offer is € per year.
TASKS.
To coordinate specific activities of the CREAF team related to the systematic review protocol.
To screen the existing literature to search for paper potentially contributing to the topic reviewed.
To analyze the literature provided, screening for the relevant information for the project, related to carbon sinks and balances and forest ecosystem services.
To extract the relevant information from the papers according to the INFORMA data extraction protocol (Systematic review protocol).
To provide technical assistance in analyzing the extracted data and the elaboration of the resulting reports / publications.
To translate the acquired experience in management recommendations.
To transfer such management recommendations to the local stakeholders.
High quality scientific outputs in the form of journal publications and contribution to relevant policy reports.
REQUIREMENTS.
A completed PhD on a topic related to the current project description and to the INFORMA project goal (e.
.
biology, ecology, environmental sciences).
Excellent publication record.
Rigor and thoroughness in the data extraction and handling.
High capacity to work in a scientific team.
Excellent data analysis skills.
Demonstrated experience in advanced statistic programming languages (e.
.
R).
ASSESSABLE CONDITIONS.
Experience in forest ecology, forest ecophysiology and use of process-based models working alongside with multidisciplinary research groups.
