Lugar Barcelona / Mozambique ISGlobal is seeking an paediatrician with clinical research experience in developing countries who is interested in taking over and managing activities of the project “Increasing TB diagnosis through TB screening in children with failure to thrive (CurveTB)”.
The overall project goal is to estimate the proportion of new TB diagnosis in a cohort of children with failure to thrive attending Manhiça’s healthcare facilities.
In areas like southern Mozambique's Manhiça district, TB incidence in children is high, yet case detection rates barely reach 50% due to TB being paucibacillary in these cases, lack of sensitive tests, challenges in sample collection, and symptom overlap with other diseases.
Failure to thrive, often overlooked, can be an indicator of TB in children.
Despite advances in TB diagnostics like Xpert Ultra and TB-LAM, their effectiveness as screening tools remains uncertain.
We propose a study targeting children under five in Manhiça’s district with failure to thrive for TB screening using both Xpert Ultra in stool and TB-LAM in urine, aiming to assess their use as screening tools in this specific population TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE /QUALIFICATIONS Medical Degree Paediatrics specialization Clinical research experience SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS Will be positively valued if the candidate has a Master’s degree in statistics, epidemiology, clinical research or similar.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES To lead the implementation of the CurveTB study, including the development of operating procedures, database, training personnel and supervision of the team during the study.
SPECIFIC DUTIES Develop the study operating procedures aligned with the study protocol already approved by the ethics committee.
Develop the electronic data capturing questionnaires and database, from the approved paper questionnaires.
Prepare and perform the training of the involved personnel to prepare them for the procedures of the study.
AUXILIAR TASK Join the pull of clinicians that support clinical assistance in the pediatric ward at the Manhiça’s District Hospital This job description reflects the present requirements of the post but may evolve at any time in the future as duties and responsibilities change and/or develop providing there is appropriate consultation with the post-holder.

A Psychological Competency Evaluation Test will be required for the structural or transversal positions.
