About CARLOS SIMÓN FOUNDATION FOR RESEARCH IN WOMEN’S HEALTHAt Carlos Simon Foundation, we are offering an outstanding Predoctoral position in our research laboratory, based in Paterna, Valencia (Spain).The Carlos Simon Foundation for Women's Research is a non-profit organization founded and directed by Professor Carlos Simón, professor at the University of Valencia and renowned clinical researcher in the field of obstetrics and gynecology. Our main activity is biomedical research in the field of reproductive medicine and women’s health, focusing on clinical translation.As a multidisciplinary team of more than forty professionals, we are proud to be part of the INCLIVA Health Research Institute (IIS INCLIVA), accredited by the Carlos III Health Research Institute, Spain's leading national body for promoting health research.We are seeking one candidate to apply for a Predoctoral Contract in Health Research (PFIS) under the upcoming Call AES 2025 of the Carlos III Health Institute. Successful candidate will join the Maternal Fetal Communication research group at the Carlos Simon Foundation/INCLIVA Hospital Clínico de Valencia. Specifically, the project associated with the predoctoral researcher position is:Project PI24/01784 - Ovarian rejuvenation through partial cell reprogramming. Principal Investigators: Felipe Vilella Mitjana, PhD /Ana Monteagudo Sánchez.Project Theme:Women are born with a finite, non-renewable reserve of oocytes, the quantity and quality of which begin to decline considerably with age. This decrease is associated with a process called ovarian aging, in which different molecular and cellular mechanisms are involved.Cell reprogramming has been shown to enable the conversion of differentiated cells into pluripotent cells through the expression of Yamanaka factors. Expression of these factors over short intervals in aged cells restores juvenile epigenetic marks, inhibition of the senescence-associated secretory pathway (SASP), and reduction in the number of senescent cells. This process is called "partial reprogramming", it is a strategy that can promote broad cell rejuvenation effects and has been shown to restore aging-related cellular deficits in other tissues, we hypothesize that similar rejuvenation effects can also be achieved in ovarian cells. In this project, we aim to conduct a comprehensive study of single cells at the transcriptomic (snRNA-seq) and epigenetic (snATAC-seq and snmC-seq) level to understand what happens during ovarian aging. Subsequently, we will apply a partial reprogramming method based on CRISPRa technology in ovaries maintained ex vivo in a normothermic perfusion machine.Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:• Performs research tasks in a specific and novel project.• Analyses results, draws up conclusions in collaboration with the Postdoctoral Researcher and Principal Investigator.• Write the doctoral thesis and publish the results.• Undertakes a 3 to 6 month stay in an international reference laboratory.• Participates in the weekly scientific meetings of the entity.• Contributes to the preparation of manuscripts, the design and execution of laboratory experiments and data analysis.• Maintains laboratory equipment.• Keeps his/her own knowledge up to date and learns from members of the senior team, as well as proposes and carries out appropriate training courses for his/her professional development.•Collaborates in a multidisciplinary environment with leading clinicians, scientific experts in different areas, data analysts, statisticians and IT professionals.Required skills and experience:Graduate in Biochemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or related.The candidate/s must be enrolled or eligible to be enrolled in a doctoral program for the academic year 2025-2026 at a Spanish university, which may be accredited during or after the grant application and until the end of the allegations period.Those who are in any of the following situations may not participate in this action:To have started their predoctoral training with funding from other grants for predoctoral training through the development of a doctoral thesis that has been awarded within the framework of the State Plan for Scientific, Technical and Innovation Research (hereinafter, PEICTI) 2022-2024 or any of the previous State Plans.To be in possession of a doctorate degree, from any Spanish or foreign university.To have enjoyed, prior to joining, a predoctoral contract for a period of more than twelve months.Assessable requirements of the candidates:Academic record.Specialised Health Training (FSE).Regulated participation in research projects.Co-authorship in publications.Co-authorship in national and/or international Congresses.Co-authorship in patents.Labor conditions:The financial endowment of the AES 2024 was 20,600 euros for each of the first two annuities, 21,800 euros for the third annuity and 26,900 euros for the fourth annuity, as gross salary remuneration (Pending resolution of granting amounts of the AES 2025).Applications may be submitted by e-mail: (indicate “Maternal Fetal - PFIS Request” in the subject) to the following address: rcampos@fundacioncarlossimon.comThe deadline for receiving candidate applications will end on January 15, 2025 at 3:00 p.m.After a review period in which candidates whose CV best meets the established criteria will be selected, only those candidates who have been shortlisted will be contacted.Participate in a research project framed within women’s health in a highly motivating team.Opportunity for professional and personal growth, as well as the application of knowledge working with colleagues from the same professional fieldOur facilities are in Parque Tecnológico de Paterna.
