Context And Mission The successful candidate will join the Computational Earth Sciences group to lead the workflow activities focused on optimizing and integrating workflows for numerical and AI models in weather, air quality, and climate research studies and operations.
A key objective is to facilitate the seamless integration of these models for use in Digital Twins, ensuring that simulations are both high-resolution and high-throughput.
The candidate will also be responsible for developing and implementing novel techniques that address technical challenges such as I/O latency, bandwidth, storage capacity, and the automation of workflow management.
Emphasis will be placed on enhancing the reproducibility and provenance of workflows, which are crucial pillars for ensuring the reliability and traceability of research outputs.
The candidate will lead the department's research efforts in these areas, contributing to the publication of results.

Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience Excellent computer skills in high-level computer languages (particularly FORTRAN and C/C++) and experience in UNIX/LINUX environments and scripting languages (bash, Python, etc).
Previous experience in a scientific field related to the role, particularly climate or ocean modeling.
Proven experience in running and optimizing weather science workflows on large HPC systems Previous experience in HPC architecture and parallel programming (multi-threaded applications) will be valued.
Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience Fluency in English is essential.
Proficiency in Spanish and other European languages would be advantageous.
Proven ability to manage large-scale, collaborative projects, including version control (Git, SVN).
Previous experience of supervising PhD, Masters, or undergraduate students.
Demonstrated skills in the use and support of Unix or Linux-based HPC systems, including system optimization through application performance tuning, understanding of application scaling properties, workflow management, job scheduling, user resource management, and user troubleshooting Competences Strong communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate collaboration within a multidisciplinary team.

The recruitment process consists of two phases.
Curriculum Analysis.
Evaluation of previous experience and/or scientific history, degree, training, and other professional information relevant to the position.
- 40 points Interview phase.
The highest-rated candidates at the curriculum level will be invited to the interview phase, conducted by the corresponding department and Human Resources.
In this phase, technical competencies, knowledge, skills, and professional experience related to the position, as well as the required personal competencies, will be evaluated.
- 60 points.
A minimum of 30 points out of 60 must be obtained to be eligible for the position.
The recruitment panel will be composed of at least three people, ensuring at least 25% representation of women.
In accordance with OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for each vacancy at the beginning of the process.
After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will begin the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview.
At a minimum, a personality questionnaire as well as a technical exercise will be conducted during the process.
